Hi,
I'm an artist and a graduate student at Prescott College. I am studying Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy. I currently work as a substitute teacher, and an intern doing school-based counseling with children who have experienced trauma.
Check out my website: joyousdawn.com
ALSO, check out the late artist Ed Paschke. We are selling Ed Paschke lithographs, posters and other memorabilia on the site OR ebay!
PS. Sorry to all my friends who liked my content before...alot of my stumbles these days are wedding related. It has become an obsession.. even though I am very early in the planning process... I promise to stumble other things too ;)

I want to read this book!
From the page: "Dr. Peele explains that, despite what parents have been told, it's normal for most kids to try alcohol and drugs, and that the large majority will not become addicts or ruin their lives, if they are armed with real-life motivators to keep them addiction free: independence, critical thinking, responsibility, and the ability to enjoy life."

Exactly why I quit a terrible charter school- couldn't be the one standing by and allowing kids to be failed..and having parents believe they were going to a "better" school..
"You claim that you want to protect our kids' self-esteem by using easy textbooks and not failing the kids if they don't do their work or pass tests. You do just the opposite. You give them a false sense of self-esteem. When these kids hit college, or worse yet, when they apply for a job, then reality hits them--the reality you tried to fake for them by "protecting" their feelings and self-esteem. Real self-esteem comes from working hard to meet challenges. By testing yourself. By persevering to learn difficult material. By not giving up. By being held accountable for the work you do. By achieving real learning skills and real goals from personal effort, and by gaining real self-confidence in your ability to learn and solve problems..."
"Public schools don't go out of business no matter how bad they are or how stupid their teaching methods because they are government monopolies. That's a prescription for education disaster."
"I know there are many good teachers in your schools, but many of your best teachers quit after a while because they can't stand the strangling regulations they work under. I see now that your public schools are like education prisons that promote mediocrity and dumb-down our kids' education to the lowest level."
